Last Sunday we celebrated the Day of the Book and I didn’t want to miss this opportunity of talking about a children books collection that my kids (and many other children) love: Geronimo Stilton. You might know this character, especially if you have children over 6 years old, but for those of you who doesn´t meet him yet, it’s a pleasure for me to introduce you Stilton: a clueless, scary and funny mouse who loves the quiet and tidy life but finally end up on an endless number of adventures.

I have always tried to inculcate to my children the love for reading, that’s why since they were babies I have been reading stories and books adapted to their ages, letting them to play and touch them as another toy. Always looking for topics and subjects according to their interests, so we have had the opportunity of exploring several authors and publishers. Thanks to these actions we can say, by now, that our children love to read and, somehow, thanks to Stilton 🙂

How we met Geronimo Stilton

Geronimo Stilton is a book’s collection for children between 6 and 12 years old created by the Italian writer Elisabetta Dami, who signs with the pseudonym of Geronimo Stilton.

I met this funny character for first time thanks to some of my friends with slightly older children and when I thought it might be the right time I started reading to my own ones.

From the beginning my big child got hooked on the plot, even asking us to read more. And the little one, after hearing his stories many times, also becomes an unconditional fan of this peculiar mouse. So, after the first book, many others follow the wide collection of Geronimo Stilton.

We finally found a collection they are not getting tired from! And this is because there are many titles of the most famous rodent in children’s literature, that are also divided into: Special Books, Big Stories, Comic Books, Superheroes … a huge variety and different typologies for them to do not get bored.

“My name is Stilton, Geronimo Stilton. I’m the editor of The Rodent’s Gazette, the most famouse newspaper on Mouse Island”. This phrase is present at the beginning of each book and with it this nice rodent introduce himself to his young readers.

Stilton is a journalist and his profession leads him to live the most crazy and funny adventures in company, almost always, some member of his family. Jungle, mountain, waterfalls, temples, thefts … are some of the scenarios that you will find at Stilton’s books. Exciting adventures in which the protagonist faces different obstacles to reach an end.

His sister Tea, adventurous and determined; His cousin Trap, rascal and mocker; And his sympathetic and affectionate nephew Benjamin who will never hesitate to help him to clear out the mess where he is involved, although sometimes they are who make the troubles

Each book is a totally independent adventure, so you don’t have to worry about following the order or missing the story guiding thread.

The book’s design is very visual. With many and careful illustrations, text that changes shape and colour, that rotates or entangles with the drawings.

Some of the books have smells and / or flavours.

Through reading, children learn values ​​such as respect, courage, honesty, effort.

Humorous style. There are better stories and worse stories but in all of them humour is present.

They are easy-to-read books, to easier to children the transition from story books to grown up books.
